Washington, DC— Kenneth J. Naylor, AIA, of Salt Lake City, UT, was elected second vice president of the
National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) at its 89th Annual Meeting and Conference in
Pittsburgh, PA. For the past three years Naylor has been the regional director of the Council’s Western Conference
(Region 6) representing: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico,
Oregon, Utah, and Washington. Prior to that, he served on the Western Conference executive committee from
2001 through 2005.
Naylor is a founding principal and president of Naylor Wentworth Lund Architects, PC. NWL Architects is an
award-winning firm that offers professional expertise in programming, master planning, interior design, architectural
design, and construction administration of educational, governmental, religious, and commercial facilities,
with offices in Salt Lake City and St. George, UT.
Naylor served on the Utah Architectural Licensing Board from 1999-2007 and served as the board’s chair from
2003-2007. In recent years he has served as Board liaison to various NCARB committees, including the
Committee on Education, the Committee on Examination, the ARE Subcommittee, and the ARE Grading
Subcommittee.
A member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Naylor is the president-elect of AIA Utah. He served on
the AIA National Associates Committee and was a contributing writer to AIArchitect. He was also part of the
National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) team that assessed the architectural curricula at Arizona State
University.
In addition to his service to the Council and the profession, Naylor served for 21 years in the U.S. Army Reserves
as platoon leader, company commander, battalion commander, and on the general staff of the 96th Army Reserve
Command.
Naylor earned a Master of Architecture from the University of Utah. He holds the NCARB Certificate for national
reciprocity and is registered to practice in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming.
The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards is committed to exemplary service and effective regulation to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. In order to achieve these goals, the Council develops and recommends standards to be required of an applicant for architectural registration; develops and recommends standards regulating the practice of architecture; provides to member boards a process for certifying the qualifications of an architect for registration; and represents the interests of member boards before public and private agencies. NCARB has also established guidelines for the reciprocal registration of architects in the United States and Canada and is engaged in similar discussions with several other countries under trade agreements negotiated by the United States government.
