Announcing NCARB’s Newest Monograph, Getting to Smart Growth II

Washington, DC—The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) is pleased to announce the release of it latest monograph, Getting to Smart Growth II: 100 More Policies for Implementation. The monograph expands on the first volume, Getting to Smart Growth released in 2004, with new tools, policies, and approaches the public and private sectors can use to create more livable communities.

More and more communities are facing unique economic and environmental challenges as they develop. There is growing evidence that communities can do more to ensure that the balance between economic growth and the environment is maintained by creating strong neighborhoods with a wide range of options for housing, public spaces, commercial developments, and transportation.

Developed by the Smart Growth Network and the International City/County Management Association in conjunction with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the monograph examines the wide variety of tools and policies that are available to create diverse, more livable communities. It presents case studies that show where these approaches have been successfully implemented and provides dozens of practice and financial tips.

Successful completion of the Getting to Smart Growth II quiz earns six professional development units (PDUs) in health, safety, and welfare (HSW). The monograph’s price includes the monograph, the web-based quiz, the score reporting to the AIA Continuing Education System (CES), and one free retest if needed. Online, fax, or mail orders are accepted for all NCARB monographs.

Order online or visit the publications section of NCARB’s web site to see other available titles. Getting to Smart Growth II is the 23rd volume in NCARB’s monograph series. All U.S. jurisdictions accept NCARB monographs for compliance with state HSW continuing education requirements. NCARB monographs also satisfy AIA HSW continuing education requirements.
