The NCARB Record
is a detailed, verified record of an applicant's education, training,
examination, registration, and character. The applicant first
completes the information requested on the NCARB Record application.
When the completed application form and the Record compilation
fee (currently $675 ) are received by the Council, the application
is reviewed, and, if the applicant is found to be eligible for
certification based on the substantiated information provided
by the applicant, the compilation process begins.
If, after preliminary review, the applicant is found to be ineligible
for certification, NCARB will return the application form and
fee unless the applicant has requested that the Council proceed
with Record compilation and evaluation. (Council standards may
change as a result of action by member boards at an Annual Meeting
and Conference. These amended standards, if any, become effective
July 1 each year and apply both to applications in process and
newly filed applications.) NCARB will send the applicant a supply
of reference forms to verify experience and education listed on
the application form.
(Some member boards will accept a non-certified NCARB Record
in support of an application for reciprocity; see State
Board Requirements).
Application fees are not refundable after Record compilation has
begun. The time that is required to complete a NCARB Record
depends largely upon the promptness with which the reference replies
are returned. The Council monitors the compilation progress and
notifies the applicant of any delays.
When the Record is complete:
-
NCARB evaluates it for compliance
with Council standards and
notifies the applicant of the results.
-
The applicant then requests
NCARB to process the application for
certification.
-
Applicant pays the certification
fee of $175.
NCARB Records
are confidential and contain communication from employers, clients,
and other architects that only will be made available to member
boards or foreign registration authorities to whom the holder
may apply for registration. The Council will not make the Record
available to the Record holder.
The fee for compiling a NCARB Record is $285 payable upon submission
of an application.
Duration of Validity
The NCARB Record is valid for one year from the date an acceptable
application form is received at the Council office. A Council
Record that has not been renewed annually may be made current
by filing the required forms and paying supplemental fees.
IDP NCARB Record are valid for one year from the date an acceptable
application form is received at the Council office. To maintain
their Records, IDP applicants must periodically file the appropriate
forms and pay the required annual maintenance fee.
