NCARB assists architects in keeping their professional skills and knowledge up to date through its Professional Development Program of structured self-study courses. Since its implementation in 1993, the program has grown to include over 25 monographs and six mini-monographs.

Free for NCARB Record holders—Mini-Monograph articles provide architects with an efficient and economical way to earn one professional development unit (PDU) or continuing education unit (CEU) in health, safety, and welfare (HSW) and sustainable design (SD) through an online quiz.

Pushing the Building Envelope

This mini-monograph examines the design and construction of conventional building envelopes and provides an introduction to the more unusual ones associated with many of today’s state-of-the-art practices. It also encourages architects to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the complex issues associated with the design of building envelopes so that they can make appropriate decisions relative to particular projects, clients, and sites.
