Reporting Requirements Extensions
The reporting requirements allow for a reasonable extension to the two-month filing period where reporting is prevented by the birth or adoption of a child, by a serious medical condition, by active duty in military service, or by other such like causes.
To apply for an extension, you must complete the
application within the time frame allotted and provide appropriate documentation as outlined below.
Birth or Adoption of a Child
Parents of newborn infants or newly adopted children may file for a six-month extension to the two-month filing period if the birth or adoption of the child occurs within the filing period.
The application for extension must be received within six months of the birth or adoption of the child.
A copy of the birth certificate or adoption papers must be attached to the application for extension.
Military Service
National Guard and reservists called to active duty for more than 30 days may file for an extension to the two-month filing period.
Active duty personnel deployed in support of contingency operations may file for an extension to the two-month filing period.
The length of extension will be determined on a case-by-case basis, and the request for extension must be received within six months of the end of the assignment.
A copy of your military orders indicating the call to active duty or deployment must be attached to the application.
Serious Medical Condition
In the event of a serious medical condition, you may file for an extension to the two-month filing period.
The length of extension will be determined on a case-by-case basis, and the request for extension must be received within 30 days of the physician’s letter outlined below.
You must provide a letter from the treating physician indicating the length of time your condition impacted your ability to report. The specific nature of the medical condition is considered private, and need not be identified.
Other Like Causes
In the event of exceptional circumstances, NCARB will consider additional extensions on a case-by-case basis.
If requesting an exceptional circumstances extension, you must notify NCARB within six months of the event in question. Upon receipt of your request for extension, NCARB will inform you of the required documentation.
