NCARB has recently made enhancements to the licensing requirements tool, an overview of requirements in each of NCARB’s 55 member jurisdictions related to architectural licensure and practice rules.

Updates include a new “maybe” response option in addition to the current “yes” and “no” responses. This “maybe” option, which is displayed on the “National Map View” tab with blue and white stripes, indicates that a jurisdiction might accept a specific requirement, depending on additional criteria that requires direct licensing board review. NCARB will continue working with licensing boards to confirm their responses for each question. The licensing requirements tool does not determine candidates’ eligibility for licensure in any jurisdiction—candidates must contact their licensing board directly for the most accurate and current information.

Additional Updates

  • The two tabs displaying different views of the tool have been switched. The first tab you’ll see in the tool is now the “Jurisdiction Requirements List,” a list of all the requirements in each jurisdiction. The “National Map View” is now on the second tab of the tool.
  • The four licensure categories—initial licensure, reciprocal licensure, licensure renewal, and practice requirements—have been renamed for clarity but still include the original name in parentheses. The categories have been moved toward the top of the tool in a dropdown menu.
  • On the “National Map View,” licensing board contact information has been moved toward the top of the tool.
  • The hover tool tips, which provided more information about jurisdictional requirements on the “National Map View,” have been removed.

Users can navigate to the licensing requirements tool and review the tours on both the “Jurisdiction Requirements List” and the “National Map View” to understand how to use the tool or watch a short video to learn more.
