Gain Experience Through AXP Setting O

Did you know? You can earn up to 1,860 hours of AXP experience through Setting O, which can be performed outside an architecture firm.

Setting A covers the experience you gain while employed by an architecture firm, working under an AXP® supervisor who is licensed to practice architecture in the United States or Canada.

To meet the AXP’s requirements, you need to earn a minimum of 1,860 hours in experience setting A. There is no maximum number of hours you can earn in this setting.

To qualify for this setting, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You are employed by a firm engaged in the lawful practice of architecture
  • Your work is supervised by an architect licensed to practice in the United States or Canada
  • You have earned a high school diploma or the equivalent
  • You are being paid for your work

Learn more about the requirements for Setting A and experience hours through the AXP Guidelines.

Academic Internships

If you have an academic internship that meets all of the above requirements, you can report relevant experience for AXP credit in the same way as any other setting A experience. You do not need to identify academic internships or have them pre-approved by NCARB.
