We are pleased to announce that you can begin taking the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®) with PSI starting June 14, 2022. Here’s what this means for you.
You don’t need to do anything now. Later this spring (late April/early May), you’ll be able to choose whether to migrate to PSI or keep testing with Prometric. If you migrate, you’ll be able to start scheduling exam appointments with PSI. We’ll let you know when migration and scheduling with PSI are available.
Get ready for a better exam experience. Switching our exam delivery to PSI offers several key benefits for you, including more direct customer service, more flexible and less expensive exam rescheduling, more detailed feedback on failing score reports, and more physical test center locations.
Keep testing with Prometric. If you have a Prometric appointment scheduled, that appointment isn’t changing. If you’d like to keep testing between now and the PSI migration, you can schedule and take Prometric appointments through May 31, 2022.
Prometric appointments can’t be transferred to PSI. If you have an appointment scheduled with Prometric, you’ll have to either take it with Prometric or forfeit the cost of that appointment. NCARB cannot move Prometric appointments to be taken with PSI instead or offer refunds for Prometric appointments.
ARE Guidelines for Testing With PSI
We’ve created a new draft version of our ARE Guidelines that go into effect with the migration to PSI. The updated document includes everything you need to know about exam policies and procedures, whether you’re testing online or in person. Plus, we’ve merged the content from the ARE 5.0 Handbook into the ARE Guidelines, so you can find everything you need to prepare for the exam all in one place. These ARE Guidelines are subject to change as we get closer to the launch with PSI.
If you’re still testing with Prometric, please continue to refer to the ARE 5.0 Guidelines for testing with Prometric until you migrate to PSI. Note: This document and the ARE 5.0 Handbook will be updated to reflect that they apply to candidates testing with Prometric.

Operational Pilot Update
NCARB is getting ready to launch our operation pilot of the ARE with PSI, with the help of hundreds of volunteer candidates. Thank you to those of you who volunteered! If you were selected for pilot testing, be on the lookout for additional communications in late March with details on how to migrate your exam eligibilities and schedule your PSI pilot exam.
We notified all candidates who volunteered, whether they were selected to participate in pilot testing or not. If you volunteered and didn’t receive a notice, check your spam or junk folder.
