Tampa, FL—Miguel A. Rodriguez, FAIA, NCARB, of Coral Gables, Florida, was elected as a regional director at the National Council of Architectural Registration Board’s (NCARB) 2023 Annual Business Meeting. Rodriguez was nominated to serve on the NCARB Board of Directors by the organization’s Region 3 (Southern Conference), which represents the licensing boards of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Rodriguez is also a member of the Florida Board of Architecture and Interior Design, which he was first appointed to in 2002. During his tenure, he has served a term as the board’s chair, as well as on several of the board’s committees. In 2017, Rodriguez was elected by his peers to serve as the secretary of Region 3, going on to serve terms as the region’s treasurer, vice chair, and chair, before being elected as the regional director. He also previously served as Region 3’s secretary and treasurer from 2003-05.
Shortly after joining the Florida Board, Rodriguez began offering his time and expertise to NCARB’s volunteer initiatives. He joined the organization’s Reciprocity Impediments Task Force in 2002 and has since served on the Education, Examination, Policy Advisory, and Regional Leadership committees. Rodriguez has also been a member of NCARB’s Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®) 5.0 Cut Score Task Force, Certification Alternatives Review Team, Disaster Relief Task Force, Diversity Collaborative, and Licensure Task Force. He has also served on multiple National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) review teams, which evaluate the curriculum of college architecture programs.
In addition to his service to NCARB, Rodriguez has been an active member of the profession for nearly 40 years. He is the founding principal of Rodriguez Architects Inc., which serves clients in the Southeastern United States and specializes in educational, office, retail, hospitality, and industrial facilities. Rodriguez taught practice-related topics at the University of Miami School of Architecture and delivers continuing education courses related to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) documents, professional ethics, Florida building code, Accessibility, and more.
Rodriguez served as a director on the NAAB board of directors from 2010-13 and has served in AIA leadership at the local, state, regional, and national levels. In 2010 he was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows in recognition of his service to the profession. In 2018, NCARB’s then-President Gregory L. Erny, FAIA, NCARB, Hon. FCARM, awarded Rodriguez with the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service. Rodriguez graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He is an active NCARB Certificate holder and is licensed to practice architecture in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.
