Headshot of Gary Ey

Washington, DC—Gary R. Ey, CDT, of Abingdon, Maryland, was elected as the public director of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) at its 2020 virtual Annual Business Meeting. NCARB is a nonprofit organization made up of the architectural licensing boards of the 55 U.S. states and territories. The organization’s mission is to collaborate with those boards to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public by facilitating the licensure and credentialing of architects. As a member of NCARB’s Board of Directors, Ey will provide the Board with a valuable outside perspective.

Ey was first appointed to the Maryland Board of Architects in 2003, and serves as a co-chair of the Complaint Committee for the board. He has been a valuable member of several NCARB committees since 2016, including the Credentials, Education, and Experience committees, and has been actively engaged with NCARB’s community of public members.

In addition to his service to NCARB, Ey has volunteered for the Harford County Public School System as a member of their Career & Technology Education Committee, where he monitored magnet school programs to ensure they aligned with current industry practice. He is involved in his local community and has previously served both his church and multiple homeowners associations.

Ey has worked in the construction industry for over 30 years and is currently a senior project superintendent at Barton Malow. His role working in an industry adjacent to the architecture profession gives him a unique perspective as a consumer and collaborator of architectural services. During his career, he has worked on projects ranging from educational buildings and health centers to convention centers and arenas. Ey holds a Construction Documents Technology (CDT) certification from the Constructions Specification Institute (CSI).

About NCARB

The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards’ membership is made up of the architectural licensing boards of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. NCARB, in collaboration with these boards, facilitates the licensure and credentialing of architects to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.

To achieve these goals, NCARB works with its Member Boards and volunteers to develop and facilitate standards for licensure, including the national examination and experience program. NCARB also recommends regulatory guidelines for licensing boards and helps architects expand their professional reach through the NCARB Certificate.
