NCARB held its first-ever Leadership Institute training program from August 22-24, 2024, in Washington, DC. Designed to educate and inspire future NCARB leaders, the event brought together 12 licensing board members and NCARB volunteers from around the country to participate in expert training and peer-to-peer engagement.
Developed by current and past members of NCARB leadership, the program’s curriculum focused on four key themes: leading self, leading others, leading the business, and leading into the future. Through this training program, NCARB hopes to foster core leadership skills that attendees can take back to their licensing board and future NCARB committee service—ultimately shaping a more informed, dynamic pool of future NCARB leaders.
During the Leadership Institute, attendees gathered at NCARB’s office to engage in a series of interactive sessions, with topics ranging from emotional intelligence to corporate governance. Led by experts in nonprofit and association management, strategic planning, and more, the sessions offered insight into the skills and approaches necessary to operate a forward-looking organization. Attendees also had the opportunity to practice their public speaking skills, identify communication styles, and understand personality strengths and weaknesses.
Following the immersive, three-day event, attendees will continue to participate in two additional virtual learning sessions this fall and winter, with the goal of strengthening skills built up during the in-person event.
About NCARB
The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards’ membership is made up of the architectural licensing boards of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. NCARB, in collaboration with these boards, facilitates the licensure and credentialing of architects to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
To achieve these goals, NCARB works with its Member Boards and volunteers to develop and facilitate standards for licensure, including the national examination and experience program. NCARB also recommends regulatory guidelines for licensing boards and helps architects expand their professional reach through the NCARB Certificate.
