Washington, DC – The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) is waiving reactivation fees for Certificate and Record holders for two months beginning May 1, 2023. An active NCARB Record is essential when pursuing both initial and reciprocal licensing because most licensing boards require access to an applicant’s NCARB Record to evaluate their licensure qualifications. An NCARB Certificate simplifies the reciprocity process.

NCARB is offering lapsed Certificate holders savings of up to $1,235 to renew their Certificate and offering non-certified architects savings of up to $1,235 in reactivation fees and an additional $1,210 in certification application fees. Licensure candidates can also save up to $100 in reactivation fees to take advantage of the sunset of the “Rolling Clock” policy via implementing the new Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®) score validity policy.

Reactivated and current Certificate holders can take advantage of NCARB’s recently signed mutual recognition agreement with the United Kingdom along with similar agreements with Canada, Australia, New Zealand and a tri-national agreement with Mexico and Canada; also, they can access additional benefits exclusive to Certificate holders, including reciprocity in all 55 U.S. jurisdictions, free access to NCARB’s library of HSW-qualified continuing education courses, and the use of the “NCARB” credential after their name.

Licensure candidates who reactivate can access live versions of NCARB’s free ARE practice exams to prep for each of the six exam divisions; they  also may have previously expired exam divisions reinstated under the new score validity policy that has replaced the old rolling clock policy. NCARB also offers a suite of accommodations to ARE candidates including an extra time accommodation for those utilizing English as a Second Language.
