NCARB fees are increasing for architect and licensure candidate Record holders, effective August 1, 2024. This is the first time NCARB has raised Record fees for candidates since 2016, and the first adjustment to examination fees since 2018.

The increase addresses rising costs due to inflation and allows NCARB to maintain the quality of its programs and services for our customers.

Updated Architect Fees

Starting August 1, 2024, the following fees go into effect for architects:

  • Architect Record/Certificate Application Fee: $1,345 (from $1,280)
  • Architect Record/Certificate Annual Renewal Fee: $285 (from $270)
  • Architect Record/Certificate Reactivation Fee: $305 plus us the cost of all outstanding annual renewal fees, up to $1,345 (from $290 – $1,280)
  • Architect Record/Certificate Transmittal Fee: $475 (from $450)

*Exception: NCARB will continue to provide a 50% discount on the renewal cost for new architects in their second year of NCARB certification through this fiscal year. Beginning in July 2025, this discount will sunset, and second year Certificate renewals will cost the full renewal fee.

Architect Record fees maintain our certification program to support professional mobility and provide free continuing education (CE), allowing architects access to complete health, safety, and welfare courses at no additional cost to fulfill their CE requirements for licensure renewal.

In addition, a portion of these funds subsidize the development and administration of NCARB’s key programs for emerging professionals, including the Architectural Experience Program® (AXP®) and Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®)

Updated Licensure Candidate Fees

Starting August 1, 2024, the following fees go into effect for licensure candidates

  • Licensure Candidate Annual Renewal Fee: $100 (from $85)
  • Licensure Candidate Reactivation Fee: $100 plus us the cost of all outstanding annual renewal fees, up to $200 (from $85 – $185)
  • ARE Division Fee: $250 per division (from $235)
  • ARE Retakes: $250 per division (from $235)

Licensure candidate fees help maintain an individual’s NCARB Record and cover costs associated with the Architectural Experience Program® (AXP®). Examination fees help cover the costs of the administration of the exam. To keep costs comparatively lower for licensure candidates, NCARB subsidizes most of our licensure programs through NCARB Certificate holder fees.
